JJ DRAFTING FOR THELions

Draft Grade — Lions
Overall

FutureB-
No fireworks, just a tidy B- for the Lions. Every other box got a look, but cornerback did not. The Lions will head to camp with the same hole they walked in with.
That is a wide receiver worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly. Ivey has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. Offensive lineman is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
The trenches got the money picks, top to bottom.
Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.
Pick Analysis
Pick28
Rnd1
Walter Nolen
In slot 28 they get an anchor for the defensive front at a price that makes it sweeter. Need was not the driver here.
Pick60
Rnd2
Jared Ivey
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Jared Ivey well ahead of where he belonged. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick102
Rnd3
Jared Wilson
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Jared Wilson. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick130
Rnd4
Cody Simon
No edge and no loss on Cody Simon in pick No. 130; it is a wash and a sensible one. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick196
Rnd6
Dont'e Thornton Jr.
The board had Dont'e Thornton Jr. higher than the 196th pick, and the wide receiver fell to them anyway. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick228
Rnd7
Jordan Hancock
They let Jordan Hancock come to them and pounced at No. 228. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick244
Rnd7
Thomas Fidone II
Thomas Fidone II at pick 244 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
