Draft Grade — Lions
Overall
B-
ValueC
NeedA-
TradesB-
FutureB-
A sensible, unshowy class lands the Lions a B-. The Trevor Keegan pick is the one that will follow the Lions into the fall. They took him 59 spots ahead of his grade, and the board is not shy about saying so.
They punted on safety, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. Cornerback was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job. They reloaded the coverage unit in bulk.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick Analysis
Pick30
Rnd1
Kamari Lassiter
In pick No. 30 they get a potential shutdown corner. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick62
Rnd2
Caelen Carson
No edge and no loss on Caelen Carson in slot 62; it is a wash and a sensible one. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick73
Rnd3
Marshawn Kneeland
They left a pile of value on the table to take Marshawn Kneeland this early at the 73rd overall pick. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick93
Rnd3
Michael Hall Jr.
Michael Hall Jr. in pick 93 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick167
Rnd5
Trevor Keegan
They reached into another round for Trevor Keegan, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick208
Rnd6
Zakhari Franklin
A reach for Zakhari Franklin in No. 208; a little patience would have been rewarded. It fills a real need, too.
Pick251
Rnd7
Charles Turner III
Charles Turner III at pick 251 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
