Overall B
ValueB- NeedB+ TradesB- FutureB-
A solid, sensible weekend for the Lions: B.

The war room fell hard for Mike Sainristil, and it showed at pick No. 130: 24 picks ahead of a board that had other ideas.

They covered a lot of ground and still skipped linebacker, which is a strange place to end up. Getting Elliss where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class.

The roster is better shaped than it was, with cornerback chief among the fixes.

Good work on the whole, with linebacker the one box left unchecked.

Pick Analysis
Pick30 Rnd1 Terrion Arnold
A market-rate cornerback, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Terrion Arnold. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick62 Rnd2 Jonah Elliss
The board had Jonah Elliss higher than Round 2, Pick 30, and the edge rusher fell to them anyway. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick93 Rnd3 Dominick Puni
No edge and no loss on Dominick Puni in pick 93; it is a wash and a sensible one. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick95 Rnd3 Tyleik Williams
Tyleik Williams at the 95th pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick124 Rnd4 Donovan Jackson
Fair-plus on Donovan Jackson, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick130 Rnd4 Mike Sainristil
This one needs a full-page explanation: Mike Sainristil in the 130th overall pick, miles early. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick158 Rnd5 Malachi Moore
They jumped the gun on Malachi Moore, taking him earlier than his grade liked. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick167 Rnd5 Ainias Smith
By-the-book stuff, Ainias Smith at pick No. 167 squarely in line with his ranking. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick208 Rnd6 Cornelius Johnson
A reach for Cornelius Johnson in the Round 6 slot; a little patience would have been rewarded. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick251 Rnd7 Sam Hartman
Sam Hartman in pick 251 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. The roster fit checks out.
