Draft Grade — Patriots
Overall B-

The Patriots won the night they stopped Reese from sliding. Grade: B-.

Somebody in No. 31 was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Patriots sat still while Arvell Reese, the No. 6 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium.

For all the activity, edge rusher went untouched, which is hard to explain. Job largely done: wide receiver settled and 4 of 8 of the wish list covered. Value over need was the throughline, for better and worse.

The dealing was even money, start to finish.

In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the edge rusher spot they never got to.

Pick Analysis
Pick31 Rnd1 Arvell Reese
In the Round 1 slot they get a sideline-to-sideline linebacker at a price that makes it sweeter. Need was not the driver here.
Pick63 Rnd2 Caleb Banks
Caleb Banks in No. 63 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick95 Rnd3 Omar Cooper Jr.
Value with a capital V on Omar Cooper Jr. in the 95th pick, a genuine coup. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick125 Rnd4 Jude Bowry
A clean, defensible pick in pick 125 with a little surplus value in Jude Bowry. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick131 Rnd4 Bryce Lance
Bryce Lance slid further than he should have, and slot 131 is lovely value for the wide receiver. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick169 Rnd5 Oscar Delp
No edge and no loss on Oscar Delp in Round 5, Pick 31; it is a wash and a sensible one. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick196 Rnd6 DJ Harvey
A quiet steal in pick No. 196: DJ Harvey for less than the market said. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick200 Rnd6 Trey Zuhn III
Trey Zuhn III in the 200th overall pick is fair value, right on his grade. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick207 Rnd6 Bryce Foster
Bryce Foster in No. 207 lands just on the right side of the ledger. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick210 Rnd6 Nolan Rucci
Nolan Rucci at pick 210 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick223 Rnd7 J. Michael Sturdivant
A tidy little value on J. Michael Sturdivant in Round 7, Pick 7, a step better than break-even. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick247 Rnd7 Micah Morris
They took Micah Morris at par in the 247th overall pick, which is nothing to complain about. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
