The Bears found their guy under center in Williams: D-.

You can lose a draft before you make a pick. The Bears did it at the trade table, overpaying to chase players the board did not price nearly as high.

So much rides on Caleb Williams that the rest of the class almost grades on a curve behind him. The Smith pick is fine in a vacuum, less so with interior defensive lineman, running back and other spots still on the board.

The interior defensive lineman spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. The Braswell value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere.

In the end, a class the front office will want to grow past quickly.
