Draft Grade — Vikings
Overall D-
ValueB NeedB TradesF FutureB-
Grand theft in Round 7, Pick 15: the Vikings steal Robertson and grade out a D-.

Every swap seemed to tilt away from the Vikings, and the value they bled adds up to real damage. Too much went sideways, and the D- is the honest tally.

The edge rusher hole is the one line item this class does not answer. However the rest shakes out, Robertson at that price is a win they earned. The cost of the Mathews Jr. reach is exactly the players who went right after him.

Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, edge rusher very much included.

Pick Analysis
Pick15 Rnd1 Caleb Downs
In the 15th pick they get a two-high chess piece at a price that makes it sweeter. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick23 Rnd1 Caleb Lomu
In pick No. 23 they get a blindside protector, even if it was a touch early. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick46 Rnd2 Sonny Styles
They did well to land Sonny Styles in No. 46, just ahead of his grade. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick69 Rnd3 Connor Lew
A tidy bit of business in the Round 3 slot, where Connor Lew graded well above the range. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick80 Rnd3 Keith Abney II
Keith Abney II at pick 80 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the cornerback. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick97 Rnd3 Nicholas Singleton
A clean, defensible pick in slot 97 with a little surplus value in Nicholas Singleton. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick129 Rnd4 Blake Miller
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Blake Miller. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick161 Rnd5 Max Iheanachor
Max Iheanachor at pick No. 161 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick167 Rnd5 Jacob Rodriguez
Jacob Rodriguez at No. 167 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
Pick169 Rnd5 Jermaine Mathews Jr.
Jermaine Mathews Jr. in the 169th overall pick is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
Pick199 Rnd6 Lee Hunter
They paid a round early for Lee Hunter in slot 199, more than the board wanted. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick231 Rnd7 Sawyer Robertson
A quarterback of that caliber at the Round 7 slot is the definition of value, full stop. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick243 Rnd7 Pat Coogan
Pat Coogan in the 243rd pick is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
