Draft Grade — Bears
Overall

FutureA+
The Bears answered their biggest question with Daniels. Grade: A-. There is reaching, and then there is Jared Wiley at the Round 5 slot. The Bears jumped the board by 64 and dared it to prove them wrong.
Everything downstream of Jayden Daniels depends on Jayden Daniels, and the building knows it. Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck.
They will answer for taking OLB-EDGE early while edge rusher and running back went begging. Leaving edge rusher unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
Grable falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch.
In the end it comes back to Jayden Daniels, and a haul good enough to build on right away.
Pick Analysis
Pick7
Rnd1
Jayden Daniels
In pick 7 they get a long-term answer under center. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick16
Rnd1
Troy Fautanu
In slot 16 they get a plug-and-play piece up front at fair value. A real need, handled.
Pick21
Rnd1
Jackson Powers-Johnson
In the Round 1 slot they get a cornerstone up front, even if it was a touch early.
Pick30
Rnd1
Adonai Mitchell
In Round 1, Pick 30 they get a weapon on the perimeter. A real need, handled.
Pick35
Rnd2
T'Vondre Sweat
They jumped the gun on T'Vondre Sweat, taking him earlier than his grade liked. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick60
Rnd2
Xavier Legette
Xavier Legette at the 60th pick jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick66
Rnd3
Ruke Orhorhoro
Ruke Orhorhoro in pick 66 is fair value, right on his grade. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick81
Rnd3
Zak Zinter
A wild overpay on Zak Zinter in slot 81, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. It fills a real need, too.
Pick98
Rnd3
Javon Solomon
A want over a need in the 98th pick: Javon Solomon adds an OLB-EDGE while edge rusher and running back keeps waiting.
Pick101
Rnd4
Jaylin Simpson
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Jaylin Simpson. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick122
Rnd4
Tommy Eichenberg
Tommy Eichenberg at the 122nd overall pick is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick133
Rnd4
Isaiah Williams
They reached into another round for Isaiah Williams, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick142
Rnd5
Jared Wiley
Jared Wiley at pick No. 142 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick248
Rnd7
Tylan Grable
They let Tylan Grable come to them and pounced at the Round 7 slot. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
