Draft Grade — Patriots

The steal of the weekend belongs to the Patriots and Styles: B-.

Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Patriots were there to profit. Sonny Styles, the No. 39 name on the board, should have been long gone before Round 2, Pick 30. Call it a sensible B-, earned the boring way.

The edge rusher hole is the one line item this class does not answer. The cost of the Kanak reach is exactly the players who went right after him. They went 6 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.

The offense got the lion's share of the attention.

In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the edge rusher spot they never got to.

Pick Analysis
Pick30 Rnd1 Chris Brazzell II
In the Round 1 slot they get a go-to option on the outside. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick62 Rnd2 Sonny Styles
Steal is underselling it; Sonny Styles at No. 62 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick94 Rnd3 Drew Shelton
Drew Shelton in the 94th overall pick lands just on the right side of the ledger. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick124 Rnd4 Domani Jackson
Fair-plus on Domani Jackson, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick130 Rnd4 Chase Bisontis
A clean, defensible pick in pick No. 130 with a little surplus value in Chase Bisontis. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick170 Rnd5 Nico Iamaleava
They did well to land Nico Iamaleava in pick 170, just ahead of his grade. The roster fit checks out.
Pick192 Rnd6 Jaydn Ott
Jaydn Ott at the 192nd pick is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick199 Rnd6 Bud Clark
Bud Clark at slot 199 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick207 Rnd6 Jaren Kanak
Jaren Kanak at No. 207 is a conviction pick that outran the value. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick210 Rnd6 Raylen Wilson
A straight-up fair deal on Raylen Wilson at the 210th overall pick, value and slot in agreement. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
Pick245 Rnd7 Barion Brown
Barion Brown in pick No. 245 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
