FutureB-
The 49ers lost the trade table, and the C+ tells the story. This is the pick they will still be bragging about in July: Eric McAlister, the No. 204 name on the board, stolen at slot 233. It nets out a thoroughly average C+.
If Cuevas pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. The trade table is where this weekend went wrong.
A whole weekend of picks and quarterback is somehow still a want. They left with offensive lineman solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
Call it incomplete, and check back in a couple of seasons.
Pick Analysis
Pick33
Rnd2
Olaivavega Ioane
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Olaivavega Ioane at pick 33. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick44
Rnd2
Omar Cooper Jr.
They let Omar Cooper Jr. come to them and pounced at No. 44. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick81
Rnd3
Jake Slaughter
The board fumbled Jake Slaughter all the way to the Round 3 slot, and they scooped it up. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick85
Rnd3
Davison Igbinosun
Davison Igbinosun at slot 85 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick88
Rnd3
Domonique Orange
Domonique Orange at the 88th overall pick is money in the bank, a interior defensive lineman taken below his worth. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick105
Rnd4
Zakee Wheatley
Value with a capital V on Zakee Wheatley in pick No. 105, a genuine coup. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick112
Rnd4
Ja'Kobi Lane
A tidy bit of business in Round 4, Pick 12, where Ja'Kobi Lane graded well above the range. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick127
Rnd4
Keyshaun Elliott
A reasonable price with a little left over, Keyshaun Elliott in the 127th pick. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick139
Rnd4
DeMonte Capehart
No drama and no debate, DeMonte Capehart went about where he belonged in No. 139. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick141
Rnd5
Chris McClellan
Chris McClellan in pick 141 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick158
Rnd5
Isaiah World
Isaiah World at No. 158 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick159
Rnd5
Nadame Tucker
Nadame Tucker in slot 159 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick210
Rnd6
Keagen Trost
They barely believed it either: Keagen Trost still on the board at the Round 6 slot. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick216
Rnd6
Kaelon Black
A conviction pick on Kaelon Black at pick No. 216 that the board grades a round light. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick224
Rnd7
Jadon Canady
By-the-book stuff, Jadon Canady at pick 224 squarely in line with his ranking. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
Pick228
Rnd7
Josh Cuevas
They reached a country mile for Josh Cuevas at the 228th overall pick, and the board is aghast. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick233
Rnd7
Eric McAlister
Eric McAlister at the 233rd pick is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick243
Rnd7
Bryce Foster
Bryce Foster at Round 7, Pick 27 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
