Nothing loud, just a tidy B+ for the Bears. For all the boxes ticked, the Bears skipped the loudest one: edge rusher is exactly as bare as it was. They moved the roster forward and banked a B+ for it.
The imported veterans give this class a floor the draft picks could not on their own. Hampton falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch. It is a bet on later, and a defensible one for a team playing the long game.
Interior defensive lineman is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
Good work on the whole, with edge rusher the one box left unchecked.
Pick Analysis
Pick10
Rnd1
Mason Graham
In Round 1, Pick 10 they get an anchor for the defensive front. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick41
Rnd2
Omarion Hampton
They let Omarion Hampton come to them and pounced at No. 41. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick72
Rnd3
Tate Ratledge
No drama and no debate, Tate Ratledge went about where he belonged in pick No. 72. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
