FutureB
The Bills let Suamataia fall and pounced. Final grade: B+. You could see the war room lean forward. Kingsley Suamataia at the Round 5 slot is the sort of fall that does not happen, except it just did. The bottom line is a respectable B+.
Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck. Leaving running back unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
The Bills paired the rookies with proven help, Vonn Bell leading the way. The roster is better shaped than it was, with linebacker chief among the fixes.
In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.
Pick Analysis
Pick28
Rnd1
Troy Franklin
In the Round 1 slot they get a go-to option on the outside. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick60
Rnd2
T'Vondre Sweat
They paid sticker price for T'Vondre Sweat in the 60th overall pick, and that is fine. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick129
Rnd4
Kris Abrams-Draine
Kris Abrams-Draine in slot 129 lands just on the right side of the ledger. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick141
Rnd5
Kingsley Suamataia
Kingsley Suamataia in pick No. 141 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick159
Rnd5
Jordan Travis
Jordan Travis in the 159th pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It fills a real need, too.
Pick162
Rnd5
Drake Nugent
They read the board right and Drake Nugent was the payoff at Round 5, Pick 26. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick202
Rnd6
Josh Proctor
Nothing to complain about; Josh Proctor went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick204
Rnd6
Eric Watts
A slide stopped in pick 204, with Eric Watts worth more than the price. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick206
Rnd6
JD Bertrand
JD Bertrand in pick No. 206 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick243
Rnd7
Jaylen Harrell
They will replay Jaylen Harrell at the 243rd overall pick for years; that is how good the value is. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick246
Rnd7
Tyrone Tracy Jr.
Somehow Tyrone Tracy Jr. was still sitting there in slot 246, and they pounced on premier wide receiver value. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
