Draft Grade — Cowboys
Overall B
ValueB- NeedB+ TradesB+ FutureC
The Cowboys cashed the board's mistake on Harden: B.

This is the pick they will still be bragging about in July: Myles Harden, the No. 209 name on the board, stolen at pick No. 244. The bottom line is a respectable B.

If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through quarterback. The trade work was a quiet net positive. The roster is better shaped than it was, with wide receiver chief among the fixes.

Quantity was the play, for better or worse.

All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.

Pick Analysis
Pick27 Rnd1 Graham Barton
In slot 27 they get a plug-and-play piece up front. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick56 Rnd2 Payton Wilson
Payton Wilson in the 56th pick is fair value, right on his grade. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick72 Rnd3 Max Melton
A market-rate cornerback, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Max Melton. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick87 Rnd3 Trey Benson
They paid sticker price for Trey Benson in No. 87, and that is fine. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick135 Rnd4 Ainias Smith
By-the-book stuff, Ainias Smith at Round 4, Pick 35 squarely in line with his ranking. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick138 Rnd5 Trevor Keegan
No drama and no debate, Trevor Keegan went about where he belonged in the 138th overall pick. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick174 Rnd5 Tykee Smith
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Tykee Smith at pick No. 174. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick216 Rnd6 Nathaniel Watson
They did well to land Nathaniel Watson in the Round 6 slot, just ahead of his grade. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick233 Rnd7 Ryan Flournoy
The board fumbled Ryan Flournoy all the way to pick 233, and they scooped it up. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick244 Rnd7 Myles Harden
Steal is underselling it; Myles Harden at the Round 7 slot is a heist with the alarm still ringing. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick256 Rnd7 Jalen Sundell
Jalen Sundell slipping to Round 7, Pick 36 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
