Draft Grade — Eagles
Overall D-
ValueB- NeedB+ TradesF FutureB-
The Eagles lost the trade table, and the D- tells the story.

You can fall in love with a player. You are not supposed to marry him in the wrong round. The Eagles did exactly that with Jaylan Ford in slot 172. Hard to defend, and the D- reflects that.

The trades bled value they could not afford to lose. A whole weekend of picks and offensive lineman is somehow still a want. Cornerback is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.

In short, the board sent warnings, and they will be hoping it was wrong.

Pick Analysis
Pick22 Rnd1 Quinyon Mitchell
In the Round 1 slot they get a sticky cover corner. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick33 Rnd2 Darius Robinson
A market-rate edge rusher, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Darius Robinson. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick39 Rnd2 Chris Braswell
Chris Braswell at pick No. 39 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick50 Rnd2 Edgerrin Cooper
A straight-up fair deal on Edgerrin Cooper at slot 50, value and slot in agreement. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick53 Rnd2 Xavier Worthy
They paid sticker price for Xavier Worthy in No. 53, and that is fine. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick89 Rnd3 Brenden Rice
A conviction pick on Brenden Rice at pick 89 that the board grades a round light. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick92 Rnd3 Caelen Carson
They took Caelen Carson at par in the 92nd overall pick, which is nothing to complain about. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick114 Rnd4 Maason Smith
By-the-book stuff, Maason Smith at Round 4, Pick 14 squarely in line with his ranking. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick161 Rnd5 Tykee Smith
Tykee Smith at pick 161 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick166 Rnd5 Malik Mustapha
Malik Mustapha in No. 166 is fair value, right on his grade. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick171 Rnd5 Ty'Ron Hopper
Ty'Ron Hopper in the Round 5 slot is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
Pick172 Rnd5 Jaylan Ford
Jaylan Ford in pick No. 172 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
Pick210 Rnd6 Eric Watts
They reached a country mile for Eric Watts at slot 210, and the board is aghast. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
