Draft Grade — Patriots
Overall A-
ValueB+ NeedB TradesA- FutureA+
The Patriots cashed the board's mistake on White III: A-.

The board owed the Patriots one, and it paid up: Ricky White III, the No. 217 name on the board, sitting there at the Round 7 slot like a gift left on the doorstep. Add it all up and it grades out a clean A-.

They punted on edge rusher, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. The Mike Evans deal gives the class an established piece to lean on.

They will need Smith to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. Almost all the early capital went to that side of the ball.

Bottom line, with Tyler Warren leading the way, this is a class that should pay off fast and rarely be regretted.

Pick Analysis
Pick19 Rnd1 Tyler Warren
In the 19th overall pick they get a security blanket over the middle. A real need, handled.
Pick38 Rnd2 Nick Emmanwori
Steal is underselling it; Nick Emmanwori at pick No. 38 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick53 Rnd2 Josh Conerly Jr.
Value with a capital V on Josh Conerly Jr. in No. 53, a genuine coup. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick69 Rnd3 Alfred Collins
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Alfred Collins at the 69th pick. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick77 Rnd3 Tre Harris
Tre Harris in Round 3, Pick 13 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick121 Rnd4 Brashard Smith
Brashard Smith at slot 121 is a conviction pick that outran the value. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick144 Rnd5 Hollin Pierce
Hollin Pierce at pick 144 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick157 Rnd5 Seth McLaughlin
A premium they did not need to pay, Seth McLaughlin a notch or two before his time. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick215 Rnd6 KeAndre Lambert-Smith
Circle this one: KeAndre Lambert-Smith at the 215th pick is a fall that decides a draft. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick217 Rnd7 Brandon Crenshaw-Dickson
Brandon Crenshaw-Dickson at slot 217 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick220 Rnd7 Jason Marshall Jr.
Jason Marshall Jr. in the Round 7 slot should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick235 Rnd7 Jamon Dumas-Johnson
Jamon Dumas-Johnson at Round 7, Pick 19 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick238 Rnd7 Ricky White III
They barely believed it either: Ricky White III still on the board at pick 238. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
