Draft Grade — Jets
Overall D
ValueB NeedB+ TradesF FutureB-
Ward is the Jets' new face under center. Grade: D.

You can lose a draft before you make a pick. The Jets did it at the trade table, overpaying to chase players the board did not price nearly as high. Too much went sideways, and the D is the honest tally.

Cam Ward is the bet, and the class will be judged on how it pays off. Castro falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through edge rusher.

The Warren reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade.

Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, edge rusher very much included.

Pick Analysis
Pick5 Rnd1 Cam Ward
In pick No. 5 they get a franchise quarterback. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick28 Rnd1 Tre Harris
In the Round 1 slot they get a go-to option on the outside at fair value. A real need, handled.
Pick36 Rnd2 Tyler Warren
Tyler Warren in the 36th pick is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick42 Rnd2 Benjamin Morrison
No edge and no loss on Benjamin Morrison in No. 42; it is a wash and a sensible one. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick96 Rnd3 Deontae Lawson
They read the board right and Deontae Lawson was the payoff at pick 96. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick109 Rnd4 Jake Majors
Jake Majors slid further than he should have, and slot 109 is lovely value for the offensive lineman. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick144 Rnd5 Sebastian Castro
A top-tier safety at a bargain, Sebastian Castro in the 144th overall pick, plain and simple. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick185 Rnd6 Joshua Gray
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Joshua Gray at Round 6, Pick 10. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick206 Rnd6 DJ Campbell
They paid sticker price for DJ Campbell in No. 206, and that is fine. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
