Draft Grade — Eagles
Overall B

Cowing should have been long gone. The Eagles pounced, and earned a B.

You could see the war room lean forward. Jacob Cowing at the Round 5 slot is the sort of fall that does not happen, except it just did.

It is not that Trotter Jr. is a bad player; it is that the Eagles had louder needs to answer first. A whole weekend of picks and interior defensive lineman is somehow still a want.

Cornerback was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.

Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.

Pick Analysis
Pick22 Rnd1 Dallas Turner
In the Round 1 slot they get a double-digit-sack hope. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick50 Rnd2 Edgerrin Cooper
A reasonable price with a little left over, Edgerrin Cooper in pick 50. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick53 Rnd2 Jeremiah Trotter Jr.
Hard to square with the roster. With positions of obvious need still on the board, Jeremiah Trotter Jr. adds a linebacker and leaves interior defensive lineman and quarterback untouched.
Pick97 Rnd3 Calen Bullock
Calen Bullock at the 97th pick is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick160 Rnd5 Tykee Smith
They let Tykee Smith come to them and pounced at slot 160. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick170 Rnd5 Jacob Cowing
The board fumbled Jacob Cowing all the way to pick No. 170, and they scooped it up. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick171 Rnd5 Dwight McGlothern
Dwight McGlothern in the 171st overall pick is fair value, right on his grade. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick178 Rnd6 Isaac Guerendo
No drama and no debate, Isaac Guerendo went about where he belonged in Round 6, Pick 3. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick189 Rnd6 Walter Rouse
Walter Rouse in the 189th pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick240 Rnd7 Trey Knox
Trey Knox at pick No. 240 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
