Bullrogg DRAFTING FOR THEPatriots
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — Patriots
Overall
B-
ValueB-
NeedB+
TradesB-
FutureB-
The Patriots won the night they stopped Williams from sliding. Grade: B-. Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Patriots were there to profit. Antonio Williams, the No. 71 name on the board, should have been long gone before slot 93. A dependable weekend that grades out a B-.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped interior defensive lineman, which is a strange place to end up. Every board in the league had Bowen lower, and that gap is the story. On the needs board they went 6 of 8, with edge rusher the one that mattered most.
Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.
Pick Analysis
Pick29
Rnd1
Caleb Banks
No edge and no loss on Caleb Banks in No. 29; it is a wash and a sensible one. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick62
Rnd2
Malik Muhammad
Malik Muhammad in pick No. 62 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick93
Rnd3
Antonio Williams
Antonio Williams in pick 93 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick118
Rnd4
Monroe Freeling
They paid sticker price for Monroe Freeling in the 118th overall pick, and that is fine. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick130
Rnd4
Jadarian Price
Jadarian Price at slot 130 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. The roster fit checks out.
Pick169
Rnd5
Isaac Smith
A slide stopped in the 169th pick, with Isaac Smith worth more than the price. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick198
Rnd6
Drayk Bowen
Drayk Bowen at the Round 6 slot is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick211
Rnd6
Jaren Kanak
No drama and no debate, Jaren Kanak went about where he belonged in Round 6, Pick 30. It fills a real need, too.
Pick216
Rnd7
Bryce Foster
A reach on Bryce Foster in pick No. 216; the board had better options right there. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick244
Rnd7
J. Michael Sturdivant
They paid up for J. Michael Sturdivant at the Round 7 slot when waiting would have done the job. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
