Draft Grade — Chiefs
Overall B
ValueA- NeedB+ TradesB- FutureB-
The Chiefs let Emmanwori fall into their laps, and walked away with a B.

Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Chiefs were there to profit. Nick Emmanwori, the No. 19 name on the board, should have been long gone before No. 66.

The quarterback spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. Reaching for Belton left real value on the table behind him.

Job largely done: wide receiver settled and 7 of 8 of the wish list covered. Value over need was the throughline, for better and worse.

In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.

Pick Analysis
Pick31 Rnd1 Matthew Golden
In the Round 1 slot they get a difference-maker at receiver, and a steal at that. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick63 Rnd2 Derrick Harmon
They barely believed it either: Derrick Harmon still on the board at No. 63. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick66 Rnd3 Nick Emmanwori
A safety of that caliber at Round 3, Pick 2 is the definition of value, full stop. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick95 Rnd3 Anthony Belton
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Anthony Belton. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick146 Rnd5 Jackson Slater
A straight-up fair deal on Jackson Slater at the 146th pick, value and slot in agreement. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick163 Rnd5 Antwaun Powell-Ryland
They paid sticker price for Antwaun Powell-Ryland in slot 163, and that is fine. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick226 Rnd7 Tahj Brooks
Tahj Brooks in pick No. 226 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick251 Rnd7 Thomas Fidone II
You do not let a tight end like Thomas Fidone II reach the 251st overall pick and blink. They did not. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick257 Rnd7 Shemar James
A slide stopped in the 257th overall pick, with Shemar James worth more than the price. The roster fit checks out.
