Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Chiefs were there to profit. Nick Emmanwori, the No. 19 name on the board, should have been long gone before No. 66.

The quarterback spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. Reaching for Belton left real value on the table behind him.

Job largely done: wide receiver settled and 7 of 8 of the wish list covered. Value over need was the throughline, for better and worse.

In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
