Draft Grade — 49ers
Overall B-
ValueB- NeedB+ TradesB- FutureB-
The 49ers did the meat-and-potatoes work well: B-.

You can fall in love with a player. You are not supposed to marry him in the wrong round. The 49ers did exactly that with Jalen Travis in pick 252. A dependable weekend that grades out a B-.

On value alone, Gabriel makes the weekend a net positive. For all the activity, tight end went untouched, which is hard to explain.

On the needs board they went 6 of 8, with offensive lineman the one that mattered most. The trenches got the money picks, top to bottom.

Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.

Pick Analysis
Pick11 Rnd1 Will Campbell
In pick No. 11 they get protection for the quarterback at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick43 Rnd2 Trey Amos
They took Trey Amos at par in the 43rd overall pick, which is nothing to complain about. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick75 Rnd3 Shemar Turner
Shemar Turner in the 75th pick is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick100 Rnd3 Deone Walker
Deone Walker at slot 100 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick113 Rnd4 Cam Skattebo
Cam Skattebo in No. 113 lands just on the right side of the ledger. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick138 Rnd4 Malachi Moore
They paid sticker price for Malachi Moore in the Round 4 slot, and that is fine. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick147 Rnd5 Dillon Gabriel
They will replay Dillon Gabriel at the Round 5 slot for years; that is how good the value is. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick160 Rnd5 Ty Robinson
No drama and no debate, Ty Robinson went about where he belonged in No. 160. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick227 Rnd7 Isaac TeSlaa
A market-rate wide receiver, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Isaac TeSlaa. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick249 Rnd7 Teddye Buchanan
No edge and no loss on Teddye Buchanan in pick 249; it is a wash and a sensible one. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick252 Rnd7 Jalen Travis
A wild overpay on Jalen Travis in Round 7, Pick 36, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
