Draft Grade — Chargers
Overall F
ValueC+ NeedB+ TradesF FutureF
The Chargers reached for Lachey and never recovered. Grade: F.

Every swap seemed to tilt away from the Chargers, and the value they bled adds up to real damage.

Lachey has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. For all the activity, quarterback went untouched, which is hard to explain. However the rest shakes out, Mills at that price is a win they earned.

The bill for those future picks comes due whether the class hits or not.

The verdict is harsh because the weekend was, and there is little to argue.

Pick Analysis
Pick6 Rnd1 Tetairoa McMillan
In the 6th overall pick they get a difference-maker at receiver. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick15 Rnd1 Tacario Davis
In Round 1, Pick 15 they get a ballhawk on the outside at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick38 Rnd2 Patrick Payton
Patrick Payton at the Round 2 slot is right where the board had him, plain and simple. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick70 Rnd3 Luke Lachey
A wild overpay on Luke Lachey in No. 70, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick79 Rnd3 Nicholas Singleton
A reach for Nicholas Singleton in slot 79; a little patience would have been rewarded. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick102 Rnd4 Jay Higgins
Jay Higgins at pick 102 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick111 Rnd4 Nick Emmanwori
They jumped the gun on Nick Emmanwori, taking him earlier than his grade liked. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick143 Rnd5 Rylie Mills
Steal is underselling it; Rylie Mills at the 143rd pick is a heist with the alarm still ringing. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick175 Rnd6 Seth McLaughlin
Seth McLaughlin in the 175th overall pick is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick209 Rnd7 Dylan Fairchild
Dylan Fairchild at the Round 7 slot is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. It fills a real need, too.
