FutureF
A weekend that raised as many questions as it answered. The Chargers get a C. The Chargers clearly saw something nobody else did in Luke Lachey, taking him 20 picks ahead of his grade. The board is not convinced. Some smart calls, some head-scratchers, and a C in the wash.
The quarterback hole is the one line item this class does not answer. They are betting the present roster is worth a lighter draft next spring. Job largely done: edge rusher settled and 7 of 8 of the wish list covered.
They came away with juice, if not much beef up front.
So much rides on Tetairoa McMillan that the real verdict is a season or two away.
Pick Analysis
Pick6
Rnd1
Tetairoa McMillan
In pick 6 they get a true top target. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick38
Rnd2
Patrick Payton
A straight-up fair deal on Patrick Payton at No. 38, value and slot in agreement. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick70
Rnd3
Nicholas Singleton
Nicholas Singleton at the 70th pick is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick79
Rnd3
Luke Lachey
A real head-scratcher, Luke Lachey in the 79th overall pick is miles ahead of his ranking. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick102
Rnd4
Rylie Mills
Rylie Mills at the Round 4 slot is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick111
Rnd4
Nick Emmanwori
A premium they did not need to pay, Nick Emmanwori a notch or two before his time. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick143
Rnd5
Davison Igbinosun
Davison Igbinosun in the 143rd overall pick lands just on the right side of the ledger. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick175
Rnd6
Jaeden Roberts
Good price on Jaeden Roberts in No. 175, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick209
Rnd7
Dylan Fairchild
A big swing on Dylan Fairchild at the 209th pick, well ahead of any board in the building. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
