Draft Grade — 49ers
Overall D
ValueB NeedB+ TradesF FutureB-
The 49ers bled value on every deal, hence the D.

When the story of this class is written, it opens with Oluwafemi Oladejo at the Round 3 slot, a reach of 38 spots that the board flatly disagrees with. Hard to defend, and the D reflects that.

Overpaying at the table undid a lot of the good work elsewhere. On value alone, Walker makes the weekend a net positive.

Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even.

Pick Analysis
Pick11 Rnd1 Ashton Jeanty
In the 11th pick they get a three-down runner, and a steal at that. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick43 Rnd2 Jalon Walker
Jalon Walker in No. 43 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick44 Rnd2 Colston Loveland
The board fumbled Colston Loveland all the way to the 44th overall pick, and they scooped it up. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick75 Rnd3 Jordan Burch
The board had cheaper options than Jordan Burch at the Round 3 slot, and it noticed. It fills a real need, too.
Pick100 Rnd3 Oluwafemi Oladejo
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Oluwafemi Oladejo well ahead of where he belonged. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick113 Rnd4 Anthony Belton
A clean, defensible pick in pick No. 113 with a little surplus value in Anthony Belton. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick138 Rnd4 Willie Lampkin
A real head-scratcher, Willie Lampkin in the 138th pick is miles ahead of his ranking. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick147 Rnd5 Dont'e Thornton Jr.
They reached into another round for Dont'e Thornton Jr., and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick160 Rnd5 JJ Pegues
Value said wait; JJ Pegues in slot 160 says they were not listening. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick227 Rnd7 Teddye Buchanan
Teddye Buchanan at Round 7, Pick 11 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick249 Rnd7 Jackson Hawes
They went early on Jackson Hawes in No. 249, and the value did not follow. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick252 Rnd7 Brady Cook
This one needs a full-page explanation: Brady Cook in pick No. 252, miles early. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
