Draft Grade — Vikings
Overall
D+
ValueB
NeedB
TradesF
FutureB
The phones sank the Vikings this weekend: D+. Some picks age like wine; Cody Lindenberg at Round 6, Pick 11 will need to, sitting 69 spots clear of his grade.
Overpaying at the table undid a lot of the good work elsewhere. For all the activity, edge rusher went untouched, which is hard to explain.
Getting Loveland where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class.
Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and edge rusher is still a hole.
Pick Analysis
Pick36
Rnd2
Nick Emmanwori
A tidy bit of business in pick No. 36, where Nick Emmanwori graded well above the range. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick44
Rnd2
Colston Loveland
Colston Loveland at pick 44 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick94
Rnd3
Jordan Phillips
A premium they did not need to pay, Jordan Phillips a notch or two before his time. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick97
Rnd3
Dylan Fairchild
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Dylan Fairchild. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick139
Rnd5
O'Donnell Fortune
They jumped the gun on O'Donnell Fortune, taking him earlier than his grade liked. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick187
Rnd6
Cody Lindenberg
This one needs a full-page explanation: Cody Lindenberg in Round 6, Pick 11, miles early. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick255
Rnd7
Max Brosmer
Max Brosmer at slot 255 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
