Draft Grade — 49ers
Overall B
ValueB- NeedB TradesA+ FutureC+
The 49ers fleeced the room on the phones and earned a B.

You can fall in love with a player. You are not supposed to marry him in the wrong round. The 49ers did exactly that with Thomas Fidone II in pick No. 252. The bottom line is a respectable B.

The trade ledger is the best part of the whole weekend. That is a cornerback worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly. Leaving quarterback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.

Trading back for volume was the quiet throughline of their weekend.

Good work on the whole, with quarterback the one box left unchecked.

Pick Analysis
Pick22 Rnd1 Kenneth Grant
In Round 1, Pick 22 they get a pocket-collapsing interior rusher at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick33 Rnd2 Princely Umanmielen
Princely Umanmielen in the Round 2 slot is exactly on the number, no argument either way. The roster fit checks out.
Pick43 Rnd2 Malaki Starks
A tidy bit of business in No. 43, where Malaki Starks graded well above the range. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick75 Rnd3 Maxwell Hairston
Maxwell Hairston at the 75th pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick94 Rnd3 Ozzy Trapilo
Ozzy Trapilo at pick 94 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick100 Rnd3 Jared Wilson
A straight-up fair deal on Jared Wilson at slot 100, value and slot in agreement. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick104 Rnd4 Jaylin Noel
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Jaylin Noel in the 104th overall pick. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick113 Rnd4 Smael Mondon Jr.
Nothing to complain about; Smael Mondon Jr. went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick138 Rnd4 Kobe King
Kobe King at pick 138 is money in the bank, a linebacker taken below his worth. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick147 Rnd5 Cobee Bryant
They barely believed it either: Cobee Bryant still on the board at pick No. 147. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
Pick160 Rnd5 Clay Webb
Clay Webb at the 160th pick is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick227 Rnd7 Kyle Monangai
Kyle Monangai in the Round 7 slot should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick249 Rnd7 Kaden Prather
A wild overpay on Kaden Prather in slot 249, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick252 Rnd7 Thomas Fidone II
They reached into another round for Thomas Fidone II, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
