Larceny in pick No. 71 lands the Bears a B, Johnson and all. You build a draft on nights like this. Kaleb Johnson had no business being available in the Round 3 slot, and the Bears did the only sane thing and turned in the card.
That edge rusher hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. Interior defensive lineman is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.
Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.
Pick Analysis
Pick9
Rnd1
Mason Graham
Mason Graham at pick 9 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick37
Rnd2
Malaki Starks
Malaki Starks in the Round 2 slot is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick40
Rnd2
Tyler Booker
Tyler Booker in pick No. 40 lands just on the right side of the ledger. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick71
Rnd3
Kaleb Johnson
You do not let a running back like Kaleb Johnson reach No. 71 and blink. They did not. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
