FutureA
The steal of the weekend belongs to the Patriots and Edwards: A-. The trade table was a mismatch, and the Patriots were on the right end of it, hauling in a fortune in surplus value. Little to argue with here, and the A- says so.
The Edwards value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere. Every board in the league had Kendall lower, and that gap is the story. The quarterback hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
In the end it comes back to Matthew Golden, and a haul good enough to build on right away.
Pick Analysis
Pick17
Rnd1
Matthew Golden
In slot 17 they get a weapon on the perimeter at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick38
Rnd2
Josh Conerly Jr.
Good price on Josh Conerly Jr. in pick No. 38, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick49
Rnd2
Donovan Ezeiruaku
Donovan Ezeiruaku in pick 49 is fair value, right on his grade. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick69
Rnd3
Xavier Watts
They barely believed it either: Xavier Watts still on the board at the 69th pick. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick77
Rnd3
Ozzy Trapilo
Ozzy Trapilo in No. 77 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick106
Rnd4
Darius Alexander
They let Darius Alexander come to them and pounced at the 106th overall pick. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick144
Rnd5
Andres Borregales
Andres Borregales at pick 144 is a conviction pick that outran the value. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
Pick171
Rnd5
Drew Kendall
Drew Kendall at No. 171 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick220
Rnd7
Jason Marshall Jr.
Jason Marshall Jr. at pick No. 220 is money in the bank, a cornerback taken below his worth. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick238
Rnd7
Donovan Edwards
Donovan Edwards at the 238th overall pick is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
