Draft Grade — Commanders
Overall D+
ValueB- NeedB TradesF FutureD-
The Commanders found their guy under center in Williams: D+.

Somebody took the Commanders to the cleaners. The deals they made bled real value, and the whole class wears it.

They have staked the next five years on Caleb Williams, which is the only story that really matters here. The edge rusher spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. They are betting Bertrand proves the room right and everyone else wrong.

The Clark pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged. The bill for those future picks comes due whether the class hits or not.

Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, edge rusher very much included.

Pick Analysis
Pick1 Rnd1 Caleb Williams
In slot 1 they get a long-term answer under center at fair value.
Pick44 Rnd2 Kingsley Suamataia
Kingsley Suamataia at the Round 2 slot jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick67 Rnd3 Payton Wilson
They paid sticker price for Payton Wilson in Round 3, Pick 3, and that is fine. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick100 Rnd3 Tyler Davis
Tyler Davis at pick No. 100 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the interior defensive lineman. The roster fit checks out.
Pick138 Rnd5 Jaheim Bell
No drama and no debate, Jaheim Bell went about where he belonged in pick 138. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick141 Rnd5 Cam Hart
Cam Hart at the 141st overall pick is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick144 Rnd5 Dylan Laube
A market-rate running back, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Dylan Laube. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick150 Rnd5 Malik Mustapha
They read the board right and Malik Mustapha was the payoff at No. 150. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick181 Rnd6 JD Bertrand
JD Bertrand at No. 181 is a conviction pick that outran the value. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
Pick223 Rnd7 De'Corian Clark
De'Corian Clark at the 223rd overall pick is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick228 Rnd7 Trevor Keegan
Trevor Keegan in the 228th pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
