Draft Grade — Ravens
Overall

ValueB
NeedB-

FutureB-
Larceny in the Round 4 slot lands the Ravens a B-, Mondon Jr. and all. The needs board said one thing and the Ravens did another, using slot 136 on Malachi Moore while cornerback, quarterback and other spots waited. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B-.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped cornerback, which is a strange place to end up. Mondon Jr. falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch. Reaching for Vinson left real value on the table behind him.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but cornerback.
Pick Analysis
Pick27
Rnd1
Nick Emmanwori
In No. 27 they get a rangy last line of defense at fair value. Need was not the driver here.
Pick59
Rnd2
Jonah Savaiinaea
Jonah Savaiinaea is a better player than the Round 2 slot suggests; smart patience, rewarded. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick91
Rnd3
Deone Walker
They did well to land Deone Walker in pick 91, just ahead of his grade. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick129
Rnd4
Smael Mondon Jr.
They will replay Smael Mondon Jr. at pick No. 129 for years; that is how good the value is. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick136
Rnd4
Malachi Moore
A curious use of the 136th overall pick. Cornerback, quarterback and other spots needed the pick; a safety in Malachi Moore did not.
Pick176
Rnd5
RJ Harvey
A slide stopped in slot 176, with RJ Harvey worth more than the price. The roster fit checks out.
Pick183
Rnd6
Dont'e Thornton Jr.
Dont'e Thornton Jr. at Round 6, Pick 7 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick203
Rnd6
Joshua Gray
No edge and no loss on Joshua Gray in pick No. 203; it is a wash and a sensible one. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick210
Rnd6
Karene Reid
A straight-up fair deal on Karene Reid at slot 210, value and slot in agreement. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
Pick212
Rnd6
Carson Vinson
Carson Vinson in No. 212 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick243
Rnd7
Thomas Fidone II
A reach for Thomas Fidone II in the 243rd overall pick; a little patience would have been rewarded. A need, and now a little less of one.
