Draft Grade — Bears

FutureB-
The Bears turned the phones into found money: B. The Bears did not so much draft Tahj Washington as overpay for him, 109 picks clear of his grade. It sets an uneasy tone for the weekend.
They robbed the room blind at the table, and it lifts the grade on its own. With edge rusher, interior defensive lineman and other spots unsolved, spending premium capital on OLB-EDGE is the choice that costs them. The edge rusher hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick Analysis
Pick1
Rnd1
Marvin Harrison Jr.
In No. 1 they get a true top target. A real need, handled.
Pick26
Rnd1
Tyler Nubin
Tyler Nubin at slot 26 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick76
Rnd3
Javon Solomon
The eyebrow-raiser of the weekend. They went OLB-EDGE with Javon Solomon while clear needs at edge rusher, interior defensive lineman and other spots sat open.
Pick110
Rnd4
Dominick Puni
Nothing to complain about; Dominick Puni went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick146
Rnd5
Nehemiah Pritchett
Nehemiah Pritchett at Round 5, Pick 10 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick161
Rnd5
Layden Robinson
They took Layden Robinson at par in pick No. 161, which is nothing to complain about. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick175
Rnd5
Frank Gore Jr.
Fair-plus on Frank Gore Jr., a quiet win that adds up over a draft. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick252
Rnd7
Tahj Washington
A big swing on Tahj Washington at pick 252, well ahead of any board in the building. It fills a real need, too.
