FutureB-
Larceny in pick No. 228 lands the Ravens a B, Jones and all. The board owed the Ravens one, and it paid up: Trente Jones, the No. 195 name on the board, sitting there at the 228th pick like a gift left on the doorstep. It does the job without flash, and the B reflects it.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped interior defensive lineman, which is a strange place to end up. Reaching for Byrd left real value on the table behind him. They squeezed a little extra out of every move they made.
Cornerback is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.
Pick Analysis
Pick33
Rnd2
Terrion Arnold
Value with a capital V on Terrion Arnold in pick No. 33, a genuine coup. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick62
Rnd2
Kingsley Suamataia
Kingsley Suamataia in the 62nd pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick82
Rnd3
Brandon Dorlus
A tidy little value on Brandon Dorlus in the Round 3 slot, a step better than break-even. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick93
Rnd3
Devontez Walker
They robbed the room for Devontez Walker here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick101
Rnd4
Zak Zinter
Zak Zinter in pick 101 is fair value, right on his grade. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick113
Rnd4
Cedric Gray
A straight-up fair deal on Cedric Gray at the 113th overall pick, value and slot in agreement. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick130
Rnd4
Beau Brade
By-the-book stuff, Beau Brade at slot 130 squarely in line with his ranking. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick165
Rnd5
Dillon Johnson
They took Dillon Johnson at par in Round 5, Pick 29, which is nothing to complain about. The roster fit checks out.
Pick218
Rnd6
Johnny Dixon
Johnny Dixon in slot 218 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick228
Rnd7
Trente Jones
You do not let an offensive lineman like Trente Jones reach pick No. 228 and blink. They did not. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick234
Rnd7
Edefuan Ulofoshio
Edefuan Ulofoshio at No. 234 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
Pick250
Rnd7
Solomon Byrd
They went early on Solomon Byrd in the 250th overall pick, and the value did not follow. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
