Draft Grade — Bears
Overall A-
ValueC+ NeedB TradesA+ FutureA+
The Bears worked the phones like thieves and earned a A-.

The Tip Reiman selection is the head-turner. The Bears reached 38 spots for him, and it will define how this weekend is remembered. It holds up to a second look, which is why it earns the A-.

Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck. A whole weekend of picks and running back is somehow still a want. The Bears indulged a want in Solomon while a need in running back and quarterback stayed open.

The Newton steal is the beam this whole class leans on.

In the end it comes back to Olumuyiwa Fashanu, and a haul good enough to build on right away.

Pick Analysis
Pick6 Rnd1 Olumuyiwa Fashanu
In the 6th overall pick they get a plug-and-play piece up front. A real need, handled.
Pick16 Rnd1 Byron Murphy II
In No. 16 they get a pocket-collapsing interior rusher at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick18 Rnd1 Brian Thomas Jr.
In Round 1, Pick 18 they get a difference-maker at receiver. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick21 Rnd1 Jackson Powers-Johnson
Jackson Powers-Johnson at pick No. 21 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick34 Rnd2 Darius Robinson
A straight-up fair deal on Darius Robinson at pick 34, value and slot in agreement. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick71 Rnd3 Jalen McMillan
A real head-scratcher, Jalen McMillan in slot 71 is miles ahead of his ranking. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick90 Rnd3 Javon Solomon
Hard to square with the roster. With positions of obvious need still on the board, Javon Solomon adds an OLB-EDGE and leaves running back and quarterback untouched.
Pick111 Rnd4 Jaylin Simpson
This one needs a full-page explanation: Jaylin Simpson in slot 111, miles early. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick123 Rnd4 Tykee Smith
Tykee Smith at No. 123 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick136 Rnd4 Cedric Gray
Cedric Gray slipping to the 136th pick is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick143 Rnd5 Josh Newton
They barely believed it either: Josh Newton still on the board at Round 5, Pick 7. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick182 Rnd6 Isaiah Williams
No edge and no loss on Isaiah Williams in pick No. 182; it is a wash and a sensible one. It fills a real need, too.
Pick187 Rnd6 Tip Reiman
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Tip Reiman. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick193 Rnd6 Myles Murphy
A wild overpay on Myles Murphy in pick 193, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
