The Chargers bet the future on McCarthy. The board says D. If confidence were a draft strategy, the Chargers would have aced it. Richard Jibunor at No. 256 is 68 spots clear of where he belonged.
Overpaying at the table undid a lot of the good work elsewhere. So much rides on J.J. McCarthy that the rest of the class almost grades on a curve behind him.
They will regret leaving edge rusher for another day if the season turns on it. They will answer for taking OLB-EDGE early while edge rusher went begging.
They banked enough surplus on Still to cover a lot of smaller sins.
Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and edge rusher is still a hole.
