Draft Grade — Bears
Overall
B+
ValueC+
NeedB
TradesA+
FutureB-
A passer of the future in Nix, and a B+, for the Bears. Call it a hunch or call it a gamble, but the Bears spent the Round 5 slot on Garret Greenfield, a name most had 76 spots down the list. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B+.
Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Davis. Bo Nix gives the offense a face and a plan, and the grade leans heavily on whether he hits.
They robbed the room blind at the table, and it lifts the grade on its own. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped cornerback, which is a strange place to end up.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick Analysis
Pick9
Rnd1
Dallas Turner
In No. 9 they get a double-digit-sack hope at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick16
Rnd1
Taliese Fuaga
In the 16th pick they get a plug-and-play piece up front. A real need, handled.
Pick18
Rnd1
Bo Nix
In slot 18 they get a franchise quarterback, even if it was a touch early. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick27
Rnd1
Byron Murphy II
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Byron Murphy II at the Round 1 slot is the proof. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick37
Rnd2
Jackson Powers-Johnson
Nothing to complain about; Jackson Powers-Johnson went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. The roster fit checks out.
Pick43
Rnd2
Xavier Legette
Xavier Legette at Round 2, Pick 11 is a conviction pick that outran the value. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick54
Rnd2
T'Vondre Sweat
They liked T'Vondre Sweat enough to skip the value, taking him in slot 54. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick66
Rnd3
Dominick Puni
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Dominick Puni. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick75
Rnd3
Renardo Green
Renardo Green in Round 3, Pick 11 lands just on the right side of the ledger. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick80
Rnd3
Zak Zinter
Zak Zinter at the Round 3 slot is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick122
Rnd4
Jared Wiley
Jared Wiley in the 122nd overall pick is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick144
Rnd5
Garret Greenfield
Value said wait; Garret Greenfield in pick 144 says they were not listening. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick194
Rnd6
Isaac Guerendo
Circle this one: Isaac Guerendo at No. 194 is a fall that decides a draft. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick222
Rnd7
Isaiah Davis
Somehow Isaiah Davis was still sitting there in pick No. 222, and they pounced on premier running back value. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
