Draft Grade — Steelers
Overall B-
ValueC+ NeedB TradesB FutureB-
The Steelers did the meat-and-potatoes work well: B-.

The Steelers did not so much draft Gavin Bartholomew as overpay for him, 131 picks clear of his grade. It sets an uneasy tone for the weekend. Good, not great, and the B- says as much.

If one pick saves this weekend, it is Sampson. Leaving interior defensive lineman unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. The roster is better shaped than it was, with quarterback chief among the fixes.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but interior defensive lineman.

Pick Analysis
Pick24 Rnd1 Emeka Egbuka
In the 24th pick they get a true top target at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick53 Rnd2 Benjamin Morrison
A tidy little value on Benjamin Morrison in the 53rd overall pick, a step better than break-even. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick84 Rnd3 Dylan Sampson
Dylan Sampson at No. 84 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick88 Rnd3 Andrew Mukuba
The board had Andrew Mukuba higher than Round 3, Pick 24, and the safety fell to them anyway. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick120 Rnd4 Emery Jones Jr.
They talked themselves into Emery Jones Jr. at slot 120, and the board did not agree. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick154 Rnd5 Jeffrey Bassa
Somehow Jeffrey Bassa was still sitting there in the Round 5 slot, and they pounced on premier linebacker value. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick223 Rnd7 KJ Jefferson
They reached a country mile for KJ Jefferson at the 223rd overall pick, and the board is aghast. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick229 Rnd7 Davison Igbinosun
Davison Igbinosun slid further than he should have, and slot 229 is lovely value for the cornerback. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick242 Rnd7 Gavin Bartholomew
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Gavin Bartholomew well ahead of where he belonged. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick250 Rnd7 Mario Williams
A real head-scratcher, Mario Williams in pick No. 250 is miles ahead of his ranking. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
