Draft Grade — Vikings
Overall D-
ValueB NeedB+ TradesF FutureD
Maye is the Vikings' new face under center. Grade: D-.

The phones were a trap the Vikings kept walking into, shipping out surplus on nearly every deal. A D- that will need time and luck to look better.

Everything downstream of Drake Maye depends on Drake Maye, and the building knows it. They punted on tight end, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. If Rogers pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about.

That is a cornerback worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly. The bill for those future picks comes due whether the class hits or not.

Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, tight end very much included.

Pick Analysis
Pick4 Rnd1 Drake Maye
In slot 4 they get a long-term answer under center at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick5 Rnd1 Malik Nabers
In pick No. 5 they get a true top target. A real need, handled.
Pick42 Rnd2 Darius Robinson
Darius Robinson in Round 2, Pick 10 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick108 Rnd4 Zak Zinter
Zak Zinter at the 108th overall pick nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick129 Rnd4 Andru Phillips
They read the board right and Andru Phillips was the payoff at the Round 4 slot. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick157 Rnd5 Kitan Oladapo
They took Kitan Oladapo at par in the 157th pick, which is nothing to complain about. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick167 Rnd5 Isaiah Davis
A tidy little value on Isaiah Davis in No. 167, a step better than break-even. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick177 Rnd6 Jarrian Jones
Jarrian Jones in pick 177 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
Pick188 Rnd6 Justin Rogers
They paid up for Justin Rogers at the 188th overall pick when waiting would have done the job. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick230 Rnd7 Andrew Raym
Andrew Raym at slot 230 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
