Draft Grade — Vikings
Overall B+
ValueB- NeedB+ TradesA+ FutureB-
Nobody dealt better than the Vikings this weekend: B+.

The Zakhari Franklin pick is the one that will follow the Vikings into the fall. They took him 63 spots ahead of his grade, and the board is not shy about saying so. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B+.

The phones were where this weekend was really won. With safety unsolved, spending premium capital on cornerback is the choice that costs them. For all the activity, safety went untouched, which is hard to explain.

That is a quarterback worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly.

Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.

Pick Analysis
Pick15 Rnd1 Jared Verse
In the Round 1 slot they get juice off the edge. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick42 Rnd2 Bo Nix
A top-tier quarterback at a bargain, Bo Nix in slot 42, plain and simple. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick46 Rnd2 T'Vondre Sweat
A reach on T'Vondre Sweat in pick 46; the board had better options right there. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick108 Rnd4 Khyree Jackson
Good price on Khyree Jackson in Round 4, Pick 8, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick130 Rnd4 Kamal Hadden
The needs board was loud and they turned it down, spending the 130th pick on Kamal Hadden with safety unsolved.
Pick150 Rnd5 Jaylen Wright
Jaylen Wright at pick No. 150 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick160 Rnd5 Zakhari Franklin
Zakhari Franklin at pick No. 160 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick166 Rnd5 Austin Booker
Value with a capital V on Austin Booker in slot 166, a genuine coup. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick179 Rnd6 Trey Knox
A clean, defensible pick in pick 179 with a little surplus value in Trey Knox. The roster fit checks out.
Pick230 Rnd7 Matthew Jones
By-the-book stuff, Matthew Jones at the 230th overall pick squarely in line with his ranking. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick234 Rnd7 Chad Lindberg
Chad Lindberg at No. 234 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick235 Rnd7 DeMonte Capehart
They reached into another round for DeMonte Capehart, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
