The move everyone will second-guess came early. The Panthers reached some 22 spots for Maason Smith, and value like that does not grow back. It nets out to a B, which feels about right.

It is not that Smith is a bad player; it is that the Panthers had louder needs to answer first. Wilson at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster. They will regret leaving cornerback for another day if the season turns on it.

Job largely done: wide receiver settled and 1 of 9 of the wish list covered.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but cornerback.
