Draft Grade — Panthers
Overall
B
ValueB
NeedA-
TradesB-
FutureB-
The Panthers won the night they stopped Williams from sliding. Grade: B. There is a lot to like until you notice linebacker is still a hole. The Panthers never got to the one that mattered most.
However the rest shakes out, Williams at that price is a win they earned. The roster is better shaped than it was, with wide receiver chief among the fixes. Almost all the early capital went to that side of the ball.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the linebacker spot they never got to.
Pick Analysis
Pick33
Rnd2
Keon Coleman
Keon Coleman at No. 33 is money in the bank, a wide receiver taken below his worth. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick65
Rnd3
Chris Braswell
Chris Braswell slipping to pick 65 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick101
Rnd4
Blake Fisher
By-the-book stuff, Blake Fisher at the 101st pick squarely in line with his ranking. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick168
Rnd5
LaDarius Henderson
LaDarius Henderson in Round 5, Pick 32 lands just on the right side of the ledger. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick180
Rnd6
Andru Phillips
Andru Phillips is a better player than pick No. 180 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick222
Rnd7
Miyan Williams
Miyan Williams at the Round 7 slot is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
