Draft Grade — Falcons
Overall B-
ValueB- NeedB+ TradesB- FutureB-
The Falcons won the night they stopped Cowing from sliding. Grade: B-.

When a board-topper like Jacob Cowing slides to slot 204, you do not overthink it, and the Falcons did not.

They punted on interior defensive lineman, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. The cost of the Murphy reach is exactly the players who went right after him. Offensive lineman is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.

Almost all the early capital went to that side of the ball.

Good work on the whole, with interior defensive lineman the one box left unchecked.

Pick Analysis
Pick10 Rnd1 Rome Odunze
In pick 10 they get a difference-maker at receiver. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick42 Rnd2 Nate Wiggins
A tidy little value on Nate Wiggins in No. 42, a step better than break-even. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick74 Rnd3 Jack Sawyer
No drama and no debate, Jack Sawyer went about where he belonged in Round 3, Pick 10. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick110 Rnd4 Gabriel Murphy
Gabriel Murphy in slot 110 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. It fills a real need, too.
Pick147 Rnd5 Smael Mondon Jr.
The board had Smael Mondon Jr. higher than the 147th pick, and the linebacker fell to them anyway. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick188 Rnd6 Joe Milton III
Joe Milton III in the Round 6 slot is fair value, right on his grade. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick204 Rnd6 Jacob Cowing
Jacob Cowing at the 204th overall pick is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick231 Rnd7 Willie Roberts
Willie Roberts in pick No. 231 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
Pick247 Rnd7 Joshua Gray
They let Joshua Gray come to them and pounced at the 247th overall pick. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
