FutureB-
A sensible, unshowy class lands the Panthers a B. The Panthers put a flag in the ground for Bud Clark, 21 picks before anyone else would have, and the value took the hit. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped quarterback, which is a strange place to end up. Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Neal.
Job largely done: wide receiver settled and 7 of 9 of the wish list covered. Trading back for volume was the quiet throughline of their weekend.
Good work on the whole, with quarterback the one box left unchecked.
Pick Analysis
Pick19
Rnd1
Arvell Reese
In the 19th pick they get a green-dot type in the middle at a price that makes it sweeter. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick51
Rnd2
Gennings Dunker
They took Gennings Dunker at par in the Round 2 slot, which is nothing to complain about. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick94
Rnd3
Julian Neal
They read the board right and Julian Neal was the payoff at pick No. 94. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick108
Rnd4
Bryce Lance
No edge and no loss on Bryce Lance in Round 4, Pick 8; it is a wash and a sensible one. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick119
Rnd4
Logan Jones
They went early on Logan Jones in slot 119, and the value did not follow. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick156
Rnd5
Davison Igbinosun
A tidy bit of business in the 156th overall pick, where Davison Igbinosun graded well above the range. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick157
Rnd5
Nadame Tucker
A straight-up fair deal on Nadame Tucker at slot 157, value and slot in agreement. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick158
Rnd5
Bud Clark
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Bud Clark well ahead of where he belonged. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick198
Rnd6
Trey Zuhn III
They paid sticker price for Trey Zuhn III in pick 198, and that is fine. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick235
Rnd7
Will Kacmarek
A market-rate tight end, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Will Kacmarek. It fills a real need, too.
