Draft Grade — Panthers
Overall
D-
ValueC

FutureB+
A costly weekend of dealing drags the Panthers to a D-. Nobody else had Isaiah Davis anywhere near the 105th overall pick. The Panthers did, by 74 spots, and that gap is the whole story.
The dealing is the wound this class cannot quite close. The linebacker spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.
The Panthers indulged a want in Solomon while a need in linebacker and quarterback stayed open.
It is a steep hill from here, and the grade knows it.
Pick Analysis
Pick37
Rnd2
Chop Robinson
A market-rate edge rusher, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Chop Robinson. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick44
Rnd2
Ja'Tavion Sanders
A reach for Ja'Tavion Sanders in slot 44; a little patience would have been rewarded. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick62
Rnd2
Ricky Pearsall
Ricky Pearsall in No. 62 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick65
Rnd3
Cooper Beebe
A conviction pick on Cooper Beebe at the 65th pick that the board grades a round light. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick74
Rnd3
Javon Bullard
A quiet steal in pick No. 74: Javon Bullard for less than the market said. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick82
Rnd3
Sedrick Van Pran
Sedrick Van Pran at the Round 3 slot jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick84
Rnd3
Dominick Puni
Dominick Puni at the Round 3 slot is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick85
Rnd3
Malik Washington
Malik Washington at the 85th overall pick is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick86
Rnd3
Darius Robinson
Darius Robinson in Round 3, Pick 23 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick87
Rnd3
Kris Abrams-Draine
Kris Abrams-Draine at slot 87 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick92
Rnd3
Javon Solomon
A want over a need in No. 92: Javon Solomon adds an OLB-EDGE while linebacker and quarterback keeps waiting.
Pick99
Rnd3
Khyree Jackson
By-the-book stuff, Khyree Jackson at pick No. 99 squarely in line with his ranking. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick101
Rnd4
Javon Foster
They reached into another round for Javon Foster, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. It fills a real need, too.
Pick102
Rnd4
Ben Sinnott
They left a pile of value on the table to take Ben Sinnott this early at the 102nd pick. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick105
Rnd4
Isaiah Davis
Isaiah Davis in No. 105 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
