Draft Grade — Bears
Overall F
ValueB- NeedB TradesF FutureC
A weekend the Bears spent fighting the board, and losing. F.

The David Ugwoegbu selection is the head-turner. The Bears reached 69 spots for him, and it will define how this weekend is remembered. A F, plain and simple.

Overpaying at the table undid a lot of the good work elsewhere. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through interior defensive lineman.

The Bears clearly valued win-now help, adding bodies who have done it before. On the needs board they went 5 of 8, with edge rusher the one that mattered most.

There is no soft landing here; this class has to massively overperform just to matter.

Pick Analysis
Pick1 Rnd1 Marvin Harrison Jr.
In the Round 1 slot they get a No. 1 receiver. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick9 Rnd1 Laiatu Latu
In No. 9 they get a premier pass rusher at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick40 Rnd2 Payton Wilson
They took Payton Wilson at par in the 40th pick, which is nothing to complain about. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick75 Rnd3 Brenden Rice
Brenden Rice at Round 3, Pick 11 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick97 Rnd3 Trey Benson
No drama and no debate, Trey Benson went about where he belonged in pick No. 97. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick111 Rnd4 Beaux Limmer
Beaux Limmer at pick 111 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick123 Rnd4 Ben Sinnott
A reach on Ben Sinnott in Round 4, Pick 23; the board had better options right there. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick143 Rnd5 Luke McCaffrey
They left a pile of value on the table to take Luke McCaffrey this early at slot 143. It fills a real need, too.
Pick187 Rnd6 Tanner McLachlan
A wild overpay on Tanner McLachlan in pick No. 187, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
Pick240 Rnd7 Jordan Whittington
They paid sticker price for Jordan Whittington in the Round 7 slot, and that is fine. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick253 Rnd7 Jalen Coker
Jalen Coker at No. 253 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick254 Rnd7 Trajan Jeffcoat
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Trajan Jeffcoat well ahead of where he belonged. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick257 Rnd7 David Ugwoegbu
A real head-scratcher, David Ugwoegbu in pick 257 is miles ahead of his ranking. A pick in search of a role on this roster.
