CHIBEARS DRAFTING FOR THEBears

Draft Grade — Bears

FutureA+
The Bears turned the phones into found money: A-. The Bears looked at the value chart, folded it up, and took AJ Barner at the 143rd pick regardless, 60 picks early.
They won the margins on every swap, and it adds up fast. The edge rusher hole is the one line item this class does not answer. Getting Zinter where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class.
The imported veterans give this class a floor the draft picks could not on their own.
In the end it comes back to Joe Alt, and a haul good enough to build on right away.
Pick Analysis
Pick3
Rnd1
Joe Alt
In Round 1, Pick 3 they get a blindside protector. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick9
Rnd1
Rome Odunze
In pick No. 9 they get a matchup problem out wide at fair value. A real need, handled.
Pick40
Rnd2
Jackson Powers-Johnson
Jackson Powers-Johnson in the 40th overall pick is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick68
Rnd3
Brenden Rice
Brenden Rice at the 68th pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. The roster fit checks out.
Pick75
Rnd3
Blake Corum
Blake Corum in pick 75 lands just on the right side of the ledger. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick103
Rnd4
Zak Zinter
Zak Zinter at slot 103 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick111
Rnd4
Jaden Hicks
Nothing to complain about; Jaden Hicks went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick123
Rnd4
Theo Johnson
Theo Johnson at the 123rd pick is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick143
Rnd5
AJ Barner
They left a pile of value on the table to take AJ Barner this early at Round 5, Pick 7. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
