Tiabana DRAFTING FOR THEChiefs
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — Chiefs
Overall
B
ValueA
NeedB+
TradesB-
FutureB-
The Chiefs won the night they stopped Taaffe from sliding. Grade: B. The rest of the league will want that one back. Michael Taaffe tumbling to the Chiefs in pick No. 242 is a gift they did not have to think twice about. More right than wrong, and a B to match.
The Lyons pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through quarterback. Wide receiver is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
Good work on the whole, with quarterback the one box left unchecked.
Pick Analysis
Pick29
Rnd1
Spencer Fano
In pick 29 they get a plug-and-play piece up front at a price that makes it sweeter. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick61
Rnd2
Eric Singleton Jr.
You do not let a wide receiver like Eric Singleton Jr. reach Round 2, Pick 29 and blink. They did not. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick93
Rnd3
Joe Royer
A top-tier tight end at a bargain, Joe Royer in No. 93, plain and simple. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick116
Rnd4
Kage Casey
Kage Casey in the 116th overall pick is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick168
Rnd5
DeMonte Capehart
DeMonte Capehart in pick No. 168 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick207
Rnd6
Jamari Lyons
Value said wait; Jamari Lyons in slot 207 says they were not listening. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick212
Rnd6
Antonio Williams
Antonio Williams in the Round 6 slot should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick242
Rnd7
Michael Taaffe
Circle this one: Michael Taaffe at the 242nd pick is a fall that decides a draft. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick257
Rnd7
Bud Clark
Bud Clark at slot 257 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
