tsoeken59 DRAFTING FOR THEChiefs
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — Chiefs
Overall
B-
ValueB-
NeedB+
TradesB-
FutureB-
A sensible, unshowy class lands the Chiefs a B-. The one they had to fix is still broken. The Chiefs left quarterback untouched, and that omission hangs over an otherwise reasonable haul. Good, not great, and the B- says as much.
They will need Barrett to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. The Smith-Wade value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere.
They went 5 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
Good work on the whole, with quarterback the one box left unchecked.
Pick Analysis
Pick28
Rnd1
Brian Thomas Jr.
In the 28th pick they get a go-to option on the outside. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick60
Rnd2
Mekhi Wingo
Mekhi Wingo at Round 2, Pick 28 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick91
Rnd3
Matt Goncalves
They paid up for Matt Goncalves at pick 91 when waiting would have done the job. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick128
Rnd4
Javon Foster
No drama and no debate, Javon Foster went about where he belonged in the 128th overall pick. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick161
Rnd5
Ben Sinnott
Good price on Ben Sinnott in slot 161, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick171
Rnd5
Chau Smith-Wade
Value with a capital V on Chau Smith-Wade in the Round 5 slot, a genuine coup. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick175
Rnd5
Michael Barrett
They went early on Michael Barrett in No. 175, and the value did not follow. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
