Draft Grade — Chiefs

Grand theft in No. 209: the Chiefs steal Spann-Ford and grade out a B-. The Chiefs spent the weekend waiting on one name, and it fell: Brevyn Spann-Ford, the No. 185 name on the board, in Round 6, Pick 34.
Spending an early pick on defensive back with quarterback open is the decision the grade keeps circling back to. They punted on quarterback, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.
The offense got the lion's share of the attention.
A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.
Pick Analysis
Pick31
Rnd1
Troy Franklin
In pick 31 they get a No. 1 receiver. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick94
Rnd3
Tyler Davis
A straight-up fair deal on Tyler Davis at Round 3, Pick 31, value and slot in agreement. The roster fit checks out.
Pick99
Rnd3
Max Melton
A curious use of pick No. 99. Quarterback needed the pick; a defensive back in Max Melton did not.
Pick118
Rnd4
Tory Horton
They robbed the room for Tory Horton here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick131
Rnd4
Connor Colby
They took Connor Colby at par in the Round 4 slot, which is nothing to complain about. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick163
Rnd5
Ty'Ron Hopper
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Ty'Ron Hopper in No. 163. It fills a real need, too.
Pick171
Rnd5
Jack Nelson
Steal is underselling it; Jack Nelson at the 171st overall pick is a heist with the alarm still ringing. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick185
Rnd6
Cam Hart
A tidy little value on Cam Hart in the 185th pick, a step better than break-even. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick209
Rnd6
Brevyn Spann-Ford
Somehow Brevyn Spann-Ford was still sitting there in pick 209, and they pounced on premier tight end value. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick228
Rnd7
Cody Schrader
By-the-book stuff, Cody Schrader at No. 228 squarely in line with his ranking. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick252
Rnd7
Rylie Mills
No edge and no loss on Rylie Mills in pick No. 252; it is a wash and a sensible one. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
