Draft Grade — Chiefs

Hampton should have been long gone. The Chiefs pounced, and earned a B-.

Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Chiefs were there to profit. Omarion Hampton, the No. 31 name on the board, should have been long gone before No. 63. Call it a sensible B-, earned the boring way.

It is not that Moore is a bad player; it is that the Chiefs had louder needs to answer first. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through tight end.

A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.

Pick Analysis
Pick31 Rnd1 Tyler Booker
In pick No. 31 they get an anchor for the offensive line, even if it was a touch early. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick63 Rnd2 Omarion Hampton
Steal is underselling it; Omarion Hampton at the 63rd overall pick is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick66 Rnd3 Darien Porter
A conviction pick on Darien Porter at the Round 3 slot that the board grades a round light. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick95 Rnd3 Andrew Mukuba
Andrew Mukuba at pick 95 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick133 Rnd4 Malachi Moore
The eyebrow-raiser of the weekend. They went safety with Malachi Moore while clear needs at tight end, quarterback and other spots sat open.
Pick226 Rnd7 Carson Vinson
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Carson Vinson. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick251 Rnd7 Theo Wease Jr.
Nothing to complain about; Theo Wease Jr. went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick257 Rnd7 Marcus Yarns
Marcus Yarns in Round 7, Pick 41 is fair value, right on his grade. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
