You can fall in love with a player. You are not supposed to marry him in the wrong round. The Chiefs did exactly that with Riley Mahlman in pick No. 221. A dependable weekend that grades out a B+.

The dealing alone would carry a lesser class. Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Sadiq. It is not that Ponds is a bad player; it is that the Chiefs had louder needs to answer first.

The quarterback spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.

In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.
