Draft Grade — Chiefs
Overall C-
ValueC+ NeedB TradesD FutureD-
The Chiefs landed square in the muddy middle: C-.

Call it belief, call it a gut call, but Brennan Armstrong at slot 250 is 21 spots clear of consensus, and that is the headline. Some smart calls, some head-scratchers, and a C- in the wash.

That tight end hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. On value alone, Smith-Wade makes the weekend a net positive.

The bill for those future picks comes due whether the class hits or not. Wide receiver is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.

The verdict is a shrug for now, with the swing picks left to write the real ending.

Pick Analysis
Pick20 Rnd1 Kool-Aid McKinstry
In No. 20 they get an island corner at fair value. Need was not the driver here.
Pick29 Rnd1 Xavier Worthy
A reach for Xavier Worthy in pick 29; a little patience would have been rewarded. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick92 Rnd3 Audric Estime
No edge and no loss on Audric Estime in the Round 3 slot; it is a wash and a sensible one. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick146 Rnd5 Javion Cohen
Javion Cohen at pick No. 146 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick161 Rnd5 Jordan Jefferson
They jumped the gun on Jordan Jefferson, taking him earlier than his grade liked. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick171 Rnd5 Roger Rosengarten
They paid sticker price for Roger Rosengarten in the 171st pick, and that is fine. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick175 Rnd5 Chau Smith-Wade
A tidy bit of business in slot 175, where Chau Smith-Wade graded well above the range. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
Pick207 Rnd6 Brian Ugwu
By-the-book stuff, Brian Ugwu at the 207th pick squarely in line with his ranking. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick250 Rnd7 Brennan Armstrong
Brennan Armstrong in the Round 7 slot is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick256 Rnd7 Jordan Johnson
A market-rate wide receiver, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Jordan Johnson. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
