Draft Grade — Steelers

FutureB-
The Steelers land in the muddy middle: C+. When the story of this class is written, it opens with Cole Payton at the Round 6 slot, a reach of 23 spots that the board flatly disagrees with.
However the rest shakes out, Moore at that price is a win they earned. For all the activity, edge rusher went untouched, which is hard to explain. The veteran additions, Troy Franklin chief among them, give the class a floor the rookies alone would not.
The verdict is a shrug for now, with the swing picks left to write the real ending.
Pick Analysis
Pick30
Rnd1
Sonny Styles
In pick No. 30 they get a downhill thumper at linebacker at fair value. A real need, handled.
Pick31
Rnd1
KC Concepcion
In the 31st overall pick they get a weapon on the perimeter. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick47
Rnd2
Dillon Thieneman
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Dillon Thieneman in the 47th pick. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick53
Rnd2
D'Angelo Ponds
D'Angelo Ponds at the Round 2 slot is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick55
Rnd2
Lee Hunter
They took Lee Hunter at par in Round 2, Pick 23, which is nothing to complain about. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick99
Rnd3
Devin Moore
They will replay Devin Moore at pick 99 for years; that is how good the value is. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick121
Rnd4
Keylan Rutledge
Keylan Rutledge in pick 121 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick169
Rnd5
Ted Hurst
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Ted Hurst at the 169th pick. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick213
Rnd6
Cole Payton
They talked themselves into Cole Payton at No. 213, and the board did not agree. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick224
Rnd7
Noah Whittington
A straight-up fair deal on Noah Whittington at Round 7, Pick 8, value and slot in agreement. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick237
Rnd7
Zavion Thomas
Zavion Thomas slipping to the Round 7 slot is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
